About me

Let me introduce myself…

My name is Henk Milius and I have been collecting Japanese Swords and related items for over twenty years. Especially the last 10 years were most intense. Because of the Internet and with it new intensive contact with collectors all over the world the world of Nihonto (Japanese sword) is getting smaller. But not less interesting as knowledge can be shared easily and could hopefully be the base of a next generation of collectors.

More then 10 years ago I joined a small group of collectors. This opportunity gave me a boost in knowledge and made collecting much more interesting. As a collector you are always trying to improve the quality of your collection. In this knowledge is a necessity. As I don’t have an endless steam of cash I need to sell or trade pieces from my collection time to time. I always strive to upgrade my collection when possible.

To support this process I created Nihonto.nl to show pieces from my collections, which are available for anyone who is interested in the beauty of Japanese Art and Nihonto in specific. To improve my collection I also visit Japan several times a year. During these visits I have met very fine Japanese dealers. They provided me with some very good swords, koshirae (mountings) and related items. Which I can offer to the western market at very reasonable conditions.

You will find information on my website about items that are available. I hope to help many collectors to add great pieces to their collections while building on my own. I am always open to buy or trade swords. Please note not to expect miracles, as I am not a dealer. My look upon items offered is from a collector’s perspective.

Please enjoy this website. It is not intended to be an all-encompassing text on Japanese Art as a whole. It is just a tool for me to communicate with other collectors. As time passes I hope this website will improve and hopefully achieve it’s goal in upgrading not only my collection but also the collection of others.

Enjoy!
Henk Milius
